On June 1, 1999, the welcome ceremony of kindling caught from the Mount Qomolangma to light “Chinese Nation Holy Torch” for the Sixth session of National Ethnic Minorities traditional Sports Meeting was held in Lhasa, which was put in the regional People’s Government and would be transported to Beijing within the next few days. Government leaders of the Region and more than 1000 people all walks of life participated the ceremony.
On June 1, 1962, Tibet Daily reported that more than 57,000 students were studying in over 1,500 private and public schools in the region.
On June 1, 1951, Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme, one of the plenipotentiaries of old Tibetan regional government for peaceful talks, left for Tibet from Beijing. Another plenipotentiary returned Tibet from Beijing via Xikang (Currently in Sichuan Province).
