On June 11, 1980, Tibet regional government established a working group on collection of King Gasar.
King Gasar an epic saga collectively created by Tibetan people. The book King Gasar is compiled according to the original folk oral literature spread for thousands of years. This book consists of more than 120 volumes containing more than a million verse lines with more than 20 million words. It is the longest epic in the world, and is compared with Homer’s Iliad of the Western (Greek) world.
